I had a root canal procedure on two teeth about 6 months ago, and recently one of those teeth has begun to bother me. I called Dr. Alvarez to let him know about what I was feeling in my tooth and his receptionist answered the phone so I told them my issue. I asked to speak with the doctor but at the moment he was busy. When Dr. Alvarez retuned my call, his tone of voice sounded very hostile as he tried to justify the procedure because his receptionist had already told him why I’m calling. Instead of communicating with me in a professional manner in order to resolve my issue, he proceeded to telling me that everyone at his practice are qualified professionals (which I’ve never doubted) and was extremely rude in doing so. He even went to the extent of cancelling the appointments I had scheduled for my daughters without me requesting he do so. He also stated that any appointment made for any family members would be cancelled. Is this professional? Where did this dentist receive his education? Don’t even bother going to Dr. Alvarez with any concerns following a procedure done at his practice.

I hadn’t been to the dentist in 17 years. I thought I broke my tooth. Dr. Alvarez took one look and knew it wasn’t a tooth, but plaque. With the pictures he took, he and his staff was able to get me insurance auth within a couple weeks for a full deep clean. I came in today for that appointment. Dr. Alvarez was very friendly, just like he was when I came in the first time. He probably sensed I had some anxiety even though I wasn’t trying to show it and was actually excited to get this done. He showed me all the equipment he was going to use. He explained to me again after the procedure. It was painless besides some shocks of sensitivity that you would expect when someone is working around your gums (not painful, just sensitive)

Highly recommend Dr. Alvarez. The woman who works at the front desk is smart and sweet and knows her job well. I never felt judged. He was honest about the state of my teeth and very encouraging about things getting better. My teeth feel amazing after the deep clean and the massage chairs really helped keep me center during the 50 minute procedure.

What a true revelation of pure expertise in dental practice. I could never have imagined that complex dental treatment could be so painless and such a pleasant experience. I was struck by the warmth of Dr. Alvarez and his staff from the moment I entered his surgery. I have had very unpleasant experiences with very highly reviewed dentists in Northern Virginia but my experience with Dr. Alvarez was truly first class. He is stuck with me as his patient for the rest of my life and he sure has a lot of work to do on me, even though he has made my smile look on top of the world already. What good fortune it was to select him as my family dentist a few months ago.
