Reviews:
I have been going to Calvert Smiles in Dunkirk for about a year. I’m more than certain someone that works there will see this and I’m completely okay with that. I LOVE there practice and enjoyed going there. My daughters loved the front desk ladies as well so it hurts my heart to know we won’t be going back.

about 3 months ago I was being seen in office (Dunkirk) to get a filling and xray for a possible retreat on my root-canal. Dr. Ross was in office and agreed that he would retreat my root canal but needed a better xray and referred me to Annapolis green dental where he would treat and see me. I was told I would be getting an xray for $150.

Fast forward 3 months or so later I have my appointment at Annapolis green dental for my xray. I get there fulling knowing that my insurance doesn’t cover a root canal retreat or this xray and that I wouldn’t be getting the retreat that day just the xray for $150.

Dr. Ross took off my permanent crown and did an xray of my tooth. (Normal xray) Afterwards telling me my options, which again.. I am completely aware of and know that it is needed. We had previously discussed this at Calvert smiles in Dunkirk. We discussed the options and move forward with the plan that is decided on.

I go to the front desk to check out and I was met there by a lady named Jessica. She proceeded to tell me my total was $223 or some odd change of $220+ , to which I’m taken by surprise, when I was under the impression my total would be $150.
So I asked Jessica why my total was different than what was spoken previously, because I didn’t receive the xray that I was originally coming there to get.
Jessica told me they charged a $35 xray fee, and $189 (guess) consultant fee.
I already had a consultation with Dr Ross at Calvert smiles in Dunkirk , and I have already had an xray on this same tooth twice at Calvert Smiles. Which I let her know to please check with Dr. Ross.
Jessica started to get extremely defensive and just kept repeating that they have a consult fee, and that the Dr didn’t have my chart so she didn’t know what I was talking about.
Which was fine, so I asked her to grab the Dr so that I could ask him myself why I was being charged twice, she completely ignored me and told me my total once again.
After trying to explain myself to her , that i already had a consult, we already knew I needed a retreat, and that I already had an xray, this lady STILL wanted to go back and forth with me, so much she stood up up out of her chair and started yelling at me. Miraculously after pulling out my phone to record she calmed down slightly, I paid the bill, and she gave me my receipt, and I went about my way.

This is morning I received a call from Holly Grimes the regional manager asking me if I was still going to be coming to my appointment on July 1st at Calvert Smiles. My response was “yeah , why wouldn’t I be?” To which she proceeded to say because of the event that took place she wasn’t sure I still wanted to be seen through there practice. But again this was no problem on my end. I simply wanted to know why I was being charged for something that my insurance was already charged for and I didn’t receive the xray that I was initially scheduled for. She had no answers other than “there’s 2 side to every story.” So I proceeded to tell her that I recorded the event and I was more than willing to send her the video. She texted me… I sent her the video with a message detailing the line of events. After receiving the video I got no response

About an hour later, I received an email from her.. I’ve attatched the email. Like I’m sorry? WHAT?! I’m so confused, because I asked why I was being charged and your receptionist took offense to my question, got loud with me and I got her on camera you no longer want to see me as a patient.

I have NEVER been treated like this for simply asking a question about money coming out of MY POCKET.

The intake forms that I filled out online bothered to ask me what my relative anxiety level was concerning dentistry. It’s the first time a dentist has ever done that. The hygienist was very gentle yet thorough. My teeth feel amazing! Dr. Nasser gave me sound advice about retainers, night guards, and orthodontics, with transparency about pricing. Considering the negative experience I had at my former dentist, this was very refreshing. They take my insurance, which is also another huge positive.
The entire experience from the moment I walked in was curated perfectly for the individual. I felt like I was at home in San Diego. Everyone was so personable and relaxed, I had to remind myself I was in a dental office. Jessica, the front end manager, was beyond sweet & helpful and deserves a fat raise! Highly recommend if you’re in the area & if not, travel for them!
