(1) Operation Issue.
I have made literally over 100 calls to schedule an appointment with no success. No one answers the phone. There is no front desk person/receptionist in this office. This office only relies on doctors and hygienist to answer calls,
(2) Questionable Ethics
I have cavity issues on my back teeth. Dr. Schwartz (the owner, not the treating doctor) insisted that I pay out of pocket the difference between white filling and silver filling (about $150-225 difference each tooth if I’m not mistaken. I have 7 teeth with cavity), citing white filling on back teeth is not covered by insurance.
I had my insurance over the phone with Dr. Schwartz. My insurance confirmed that white filling on back teeth is clearly covered and they do not “downgrade” from white to silver filling. Dr. Schwartz requested confirmation in writing from my insurance. My insurance sent an email to Dr. Schwartz confirming the same. After all these, Dr. Schwartz still refused to perform the treatment for me.
I was so confused and curious why she doesn’t want to do it even though the insurance has confirmed in writing they are going to cover it. MY INSURANCE COMPANY REP TOLD ME THE REASON: with my insurance plan, the insurance company pays the doctor a monthly fixed fee based on how many patients are assigned to her office. She gets the monthly fee no matter whether she sees/treats the patients or not. In other words, even if she treats the patients, she would not get additional payment from the insurance. After the explanation from the insurance company, I kinda understood why she refused to provide the treatment and wanted me to pay additional fee out of pocket to get the white filling. I did not fully verified the info from the insurance company rep and of course could not fully verify whether that was really the reason why Dr. Schwartz refused to provide treatment. I’d be very very shocked if that was the case as I see it as an ethics issue. I wanted an explanation from Dr. Schwartz but was not able to reach anyone after dozens of calls in the following month. I have not concluded Dr. Schwartz is necessarily a bad doctor with no ethics. I probably never can as they refused to communicate. I am just laying out the facts and my personal experience for other patients’ information and consideration when they choose doctors.
The only positive thing I can about this place is the receptionist/dental hygienist was courteous and friendly but I cannot say that about the female dentists who run the place. Don’t waste your time. You would be lucky if you ever get to sit on a dental chair.
