Reviews:
As a healthcare provider, I am an impossible patient. I over-explain, self-diagnose, talk too fast, and give way too much information. To make matters worse, I seem to suffer from a sleep disorder associated with airway resistance, not cessation of breathing (as occurs in sleep apnea), so my sleep study results don’t support a diagnosis of sleep apnea. I’ve sought help from many specialists over the years for issues of waking up with a rapid and sometimes irregular heart rate and often inability to fall back asleep, but because my sleep study results don’t show sleep apnea, no one has been able or willing to help me.

My experience with Dr. Hollinger (or Keith, as he graciously invited me to call him) was different than any that I’ve had before. Because he is an out-of-network provider, his care is not dictated by insurance companies, but rather by his own clinical expertise (which is quite extensive). Before my appointment, I was apprehensive to pay out of pocket for something that insurance would ordinarily cover, but I found that my experience was well worth the cost. Dr. Hollinger took the time to sit down and listen, taking an extensive history and performing far more thorough of an exam than I’ve ever had by a dentist, orthodontist, or oral surgeon (and I’ve seen many).

One of the things that I found the most impactful was that Dr. Hollinger performed a maneuver which opened my sinuses, and I found I was able to breathe better immediately. It was very simple, but no one has ever done it before. He then took the time to show me the results of a CT scan that he performed in the office, and showed me how having a narrow hard palate creates small sinuses. When he showed me this, it was like a switch was flipped – for years I’d been using mandibular advancement in order to enlarge the oropharyngeal airway, but the airway restriction isn’t occurring at that level – it’s happening at the sinuses. It’s like trying to get more flow out of a funnel by widening the wide part instead of the narrow part. Dr. Hollinger was the first one to figure this out, and I’ve consulted with over a dozen providers for my sleep issues and have been trying to treat this issue for ten years.

In addition to providing expert care, I found that Dr. Hollinger was also quite affable, warm, and had a good sense of humor. Top to bottom, the experience was excellent. If you’re suffering with sleep issues, I wholeheartedly recommend seeing Dr. Hollinger.

I adore this place, it is legitimately the single best experience I have ever had with medical professionals in my longer-than-I-care-to-admit life. Dr. Hollinger is everything you could ask for; friendly, informative, actually listens to you, and knowledgeable as could be. What’s more, this is the only place I’ve ever gone that didn’t make me feel like they cared less about my well-being and more about making add-on sales or convincing me I needed 1,000 expensive tests before we could proceed. Stunningly, my first visit resulted in a genuine, no cost suggestion that was presented as a “let’s try this simple thing first” that turned out to be incredibly effective at helping me address my issue. Even better, I swear when I had my follow-up, Dr. Hollinger was legitimately as excited about my progress as I was. It was so incredibly refreshing to have a doctor be excited about progress in his patient, and not instead come off like “dang, guess I can’t get more insurance billing out of this guy.” On top of that, the whole team is super friendly and easy to work with.

I honestly can’t say enough about how excellent Central Connecticut Orofacial Pain & Sleep Medicine really is, it is truly a top-tier medical practice. Do yourself a favor and get yourself on their calendar, whatever is ailing you will thank you. And take my advice: DO THE STRETCHES. Don’t tell the Doc you don’t have time, you absolutely do, it’s easy and quick and REALLY, REALLY works!!

I’ve been to many doctors in recent years to sort out health and pain issues. Recently, I made an appointment at Central Connecticut Orofacial Pain and Sleep Medicine. Dr. Hollinger took his time, listened, and was extremely thorough during my appointment. The visit was pleasant and left me feeling progress was already being made in addressing health and pain issues. All Doctors no matter their specialty should strive to provide the patient experience and care as that of Dr. Hollinger. Furthermore, Dr. Hollinger staff is just as professional and welcoming as he is. I can’t recommend this practice enough!
