Reviews:
Dr. Fu’s approach to orthodontics is truly methodical. He delves beyond surface-level issues, such as teeth misalignment, and formulates treatments that address the root causes. In my specific case, my primary concern was correcting my teeth alignment, which included widening my narrow arch and addressing misaligned teeth. Additionally, I needed help with my overbite. During my initial consultation, Dr. Fu conducted a thorough examination, considering not only my teeth but also my facial characteristics. He astutely identified that many of my issues stemmed from a mouth-breathing habit.
Dr. Fu guided me through the process of improving my breathing habits, which, in turn, contributed to resolving my dental concerns. He explained that my mouth breathing had weakened my nasal passages and hindered proper palate development. This led to a cascade of issues, including insufficient space for my teeth, exacerbated mouth breathing, dry lips, mouth breathing during sleep, and compromised respiratory function. As a child, I frequently experienced nasal congestion and found myself needing to breathe forcefully.
My orthodontic journey was divided into three stages. In the initial stage, Dr. Fu prescribed a Myobrace and a set of exercises, including those for breathing, tongue posture, swallowing, and lip control. The second stage involved traditional metal braces, followed by the use of Invisalign in the third stage to further refine teeth positioning. Throughout this process, I witnessed numerous improvements, both visible and otherwise. Most notably, I successfully transitioned to proper nasal breathing, maintaining closed lips as my resting position. My sleep quality improved significantly, thanks to the cessation of mouth breathing during sleep. In addition, the exercises allowed my mouth and tongue muscles to be stronger. The improved habits allowed my lower jaw to grow and led to a more defined jawline. Furthermore, my teeth misalignment and overbite concerns were effectively addressed.
I wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Fu to patients who resonate with his philosophy of non-extraction orthodontics. It’s worth noting that starting orthodontic treatment early yields the best results, not only because bad habits can be extremely challenging to overcome later but also because there is more growing potential. From my own experience, I’ve learned that bad habits can be extremely challenging to overcome, and the later one starts, the more challenging it becomes. Even to this day, I continue to perform the exercises Dr. Fu prescribed to maintain correct breathing habits. As such, Dr. Fu’s treatment approach works optimally with patients who are committed to following appliance wear instructions and daily exercises. Personally, I attribute the success of my orthodontic journey to my unwavering commitment to Dr. Fu’s guidance and my consistent communication of any concerns or questions during our monthly follow-ups.
