Reviews:
After multiple unsuccessful attempts to resolve this issue at the lowest level I decided to leave a review for Highland Dental Care and Orthodontics after our continued problems with this practice. From the outset, we confirmed that Highland Dental Care and Orthodontics accepted our dental insurance. To begin with appointment scheduling seemed to be an issue. We showed up to our cleaning appointments only to find out they had been booked under the orthodontist practice. The only solution was to reschedule and come back at a later date. Both of us took time off from work only to be wasted. After our initial cleaning appointments, I received an explanation of benefits from my insurance saying that our cleanings were done “out of network” so we ended up paying out of pocket. When I called and spoke to the receptionist about the issue, she stated, “the dentist IS in your network” and blamed the “slow government paperwork to catch up” I was assured that it would be resolved quickly. Later upon further investigation our insurance confirmed that this dentist is NOT in our network and never has been and no pending approval. They never heard of that dentist. I’m shocked that Highland Dental Care lied about the dentist being in network.

After continuous shady issues my wife and I decided to find a new in network dental provider and stopped going to Highland Dental Care. Nearly a year later we received a bill outlining payment due for services rendered. The bill did not make sense as we had already paid out of pocket the remaining balance. After weeks and multiple non-answered phone calls and non-returned voicemails, I finally reached someone in the Highland Dental Care office. When I asked for an explanation of the bill I was told that she could NOT explain it and that she was “new here” and the office had a 100% turnover of new staff from a just 11 months ago.

Perhaps most concerning, my wife was told she had 4 cavities. Highland Dental Care recommended splitting the cavity treatment across two appointments. Two weeks later my wife had TWO cavities filled during the first appointment and paid out of pocket all remaining balance. Highland Dental claimed to our insurance that they did THREE fillings. My wife never returned to have the remaining two cavities filled. Our new dental care provider confirmed that my wife does NOT have any cavities. My wife specifically mentioned the remaining two cavities only to be told they are non-existent. We are shocked that Highland Dental Care lied to her face about the cavities, going so far as to devise a treatment plan and bill my wife for a non-existent problem.

The unexplainable balance was later turned over to a collections agency. The collections agency bill lists treatment codes that match the Highland Dental Care treatment codes, but with entirely different amounts, almost like they made up an itemized bill to match a phony previous unexplainable amount due.

Bottom line up front: DO NOT trust Highland Dental Care and Orthodontics. Not only will they lie about their insurance network status, but they will also lie to your face about necessary services and treatments. To add insult to injury, Highland Dental Care will retroactively bill you for services that cannot be explained and blame the government and former staff, refusing to provide any response when questioned. Stay away from this practice. I have filed a formal complaint with the TX state Board of Dental Examiners for unprofessional conduct which may endanger or defraud the public. I’m also contacting the local news KPRC 2 investigates in hopes that they expose Highland Dental Care for what they are and referring this to our family attorney in hopes of saving someone else the headache of going to this dishonest Dentist.

I recently had an extremely disappointing experience at Highland Dental care and Orthodontics office. Despite having a septum piercing and a nostril piercing since I was 17, and never having any issues with getting x-rays done at other dental offices(I’ve used many dentist and even had wisdom teeth removal with the same piercings), I was refused service here. The dentist insisted that my piercings needed to be removed, which has never been a requirement in my previous dental visits. My piercings cannot be removed, which made the situation even more frustrating.

I have always managed to get my x-rays done by simply taking off basic lobe earrings and necklaces, so it was shocking to be treated differently at this office. The staff’s lack of flexibility and understanding made the visit frustrating and unproductive. It’s disappointing to see such an outdated approach in a modern dental practice. I will not be returning and cannot recommend this office to anyone with or without body piercings.

Absolute worst experience and dentist I have ever been to. I have been having regular cleanings every 6 months for my entire 35 years of living without any issue and have never experienced a dentist refusing to do my cleaning because they wanted me to pay thousands on multiple visits to “deep clean” my teeth. From the moment I walked in everyone was very unprofessional being on their phones and not taking care of customers. Then, they told me they would have to measure my gums in order to determine if they could do a cleaning at all and, if and when I passed, would have the reschedule the teeth cleaning I already scheduled for that day. Never heard of this protocol in my life, but since they were bought out my the larger company, Brident, they only care about money and charging your insurance as much as they can.
