Today’s experience was very unexpected. I am likely not going to go back. The hygienist I had was not real nice from the start. She seemed to be new, but ok, I have had new gals before because I had been a patient since 2008 (other family members have been with Dr Cohrs from day one).
Before the “polish” procedure, she had began to measure my gums. I had to stop her three times because she was hurting me. She stuck the depth probe in, pause, then jab it in higher. I finally just asked her to stop measuring my gums. When she told me she was done, I asked her if she polished all my teeth, she said she did but I disagree. So got out of that chair and rushed to the reception and started telling the receptionist that hygienist wasn’t very good at all.(I don’t remember her name and I didn’t get a receipt.) The receptionist (they were really nice) went and got the office manager, who took me into an office and shut the door. She asked me what was going on and I told her how I had to stop her three times because she kept poking me too hard. The “office manager”made me feel like I was the problem, like she “IS” using a pointy object to measure my gums – kinda way. I also mentioned I didn’t think that girl even polished all of my teeth. She said she gets nothing but good feedback about that girl. I felt very uncomfortable I started to have an anxiety attack and just wanted to get out of there. I wasn’t offered a return visit so I think it’s time to find a different dentist.
It’s a little alarming to me that me and my husband are NEW patients but have been going since 2008. We just had our first visit in two years (we didn’t go to dentist because of no insurance).
I had no idea we were no longer patients. It’s like we have a new chart and all. They didn’t have my husband’s account linked with mine for some reason.
Dr.Cohrs is a premium doctor, I don’t know that there is any better than him. I have full trust in him with my dental plans. Although, today, I did not feel welcomed or wanted as a patient anymore. That dental office doesn’t seem to be in its best light, IMO. This is why I probably won’t be back. He will definitely be hard to replace.

After a somewhat urgent dental requirement, it was recommended that I contact Dr. Cohrs office. His polite staff was able to manipulate their busy schedule making time for Dr. Cohrs to see me the very next day. After the next scheduled appointment my crown replacement was completed that same day. The fact that Portage Dentistry has on site ability ability to manufacture and size crowns for a perfect fit was a huge time saver! My family and I currently are and will continue to be lifelong patients…, And I don’t mean maybe! Thank you Dr. Cohrs!

So welcoming and accommodating. I hate having dental work done, like a lot of people. Dr. Cohrs is kind and friendly, and explains everything well. He is the first dentist I’ve seen to suggest watching areas as opposed to filling them immediately. The hygienists are patient with me and the headphones I bring, and the tools they use are seriously better than any I’ve experienced in the past. Not noisy, less scraping necessary. Overall a way better experience for me. Totally recommend this office.
