Dr. Karkow told me I had issues with my TMJ joint and my bite was also an issue. Got a night guard and would wear it every night for at least 8 hours and a few hours before bed. She expected me to be able to wear it the majority of the day. Being full-time in school and working in a hospital I can’t have a night guard in all the time, as I need to constantly talk to people. She would act demeaning and rude, lecturing me on how I am making my situation worse and not better. She also said I would always have this issue forever. I stopped going because I would get the same lecture every appointment with no improvement.

A few weeks ago I went to a different provider who is a dentist that also specializes in TMJ dysfunction. He told me I have NO issue with my bite or joint, I did NOT need the type of night guard she had me get, and my masseter muscles are just extremely tight and causing the uncomfortable feeling and any pain in my jaw. He also said if I were to wear the night guard she gave me as often as she wanted me to, it would lead to remodeling of my jaw. He recommended a new, different night guard as well as botox injections into the masseter muscles. I went ahead with the botox injections and it has been amazing! Proving that my facial muscles were just extremely tight and I have NO huge cartilage issues, bite issues, or structure issues like Dr. Karkow was telling me. Do not waste your time/money here.

If you are sensitive, have special needs, are on the spectrum, struggle with anxiety please stay away. I am sure she is a perfectly good doctor for those who can pull themselves up by their own bootsraps, but for those who are actual humans with emotions, not the best match. Considering TMJ is associated with stress, Mary should definitely take some workshops on sensitivity training. Her energy, voice, everything is very overwhelming and not comforting. Positive, sure. Sensitive or intuitive, not so much. Very sad that I waited 5 months for this appointment for it to be a flop. Had a panic attack in the parking lot after I walked out of the appointment due to the doc being so insensitive. She did so kindly hand me tissues, as one past commenter pointed out.
Also, please be aware this is all an insurance game and they are not asking questions to help heal you, but rather to perfectly curate your story into something insurance will cover. Feels like most doctors are like this these days. Scary times. Hope everyone reading this gets the care they deserve, and I certainly hope this facility changes things around.

Absolutely incredible! I don’t understand these 1 reviews or the negative comments. Dr Karkow is the most professional, caring doctor of any kind I have ever met.

She took her time, answered all my questions, made certain I understood everything and truly cared about my health & needs as a patient. Her staff was equally excellent in their care and professionalism.

Dr Karkow’s outgoing personality is only matched by her compassion to help you live the healthiest and happiest life possible. I am personally offended by these ridiculous reviews that say otherwise.

The services she and her team provided were exceptional and I cannot recommend them enough.
