Update: My concerns are resolved! Thank you Menlo Park Family Dental 🙂

I am happy to say that the office reached back out, and they have completely addressed my concerns. Not only did they apologize sincerely, they refunded the fees – as well as offering me a free cleaning! It sounds like Dr. Mohan was very concerned about my experience, and she and the team had meetings to discuss how to make sure an experience like mine doesn’t happen again in the future. I am grateful that they took my experience seriously.

Old Review:

TLDR; a jarringly bad experience with office management – was told they were in network – and they were not, with a very heavy surprise cost!

I wish it was possible to give zero stars. I asked repeatedly and was told they were in network with my provider, Cigna, and only on my account closing was I informed otherwise, with a surprise additional balance because of their out of network status. I got fillings and had expected to pay an extra fee, but did not expect the far higher fee because they were out of network, and did not know about that additional fee until I closed my account.

From the beginning, the communication with the office staff was strange, which should have been a red flag. I came in first for a cleaning, but when I went to pay I was informed that (without my informed consent) the staff had performed some aspects, like fluoride, that were not covered by my insurance. While your mouth is full of dental tools is not the time to try to say “no!”. And despite my paying the copay at the time, I was informed on my account closing that there were additional office fees for that cleaning, that I was not offered the opportunity to pay for (or know about) at the time of cleaning. (Happily, the office manager did waive the $20 of that fee, but I am baffled that I incurred it without my knowledge, and it was very little compared to the other massive bill I did not know about.)

There were two front desk receptionists who were nice, but who seemed to lack knowledge of how the fees and office work – possibly leading to the negligent communication that they were in network.

Prior to closing my account, I texted and called the office to confirm that I had nothing left to pay, and was reassured. When I raised questions, they suggested that I call the office manager, who works from home. Instead, I waited and she called me when I closed my account – not to talk to me about why I was leaving, as I expected, but to inform me of my unpaid bill. It was the only time I talked to someone who seemed to understand how the business worked, and a jarring experience to learn that I had not been told the truth about my insurance or the fees involved.

The dentist and her assistants were fine, and I have nothing to complain about in their dental work. But had I known how bad the office management was I never would have stepped foot into the office. I encourage the practice to make sure nothing like this ever happens again.

I’m from out of town, setting up hospice for my dad when a tooth went bad. Unable to get to my dentist, Menlo Park Family Dental took me in with the kindest, most professional staff. I am very anxious about going to the dentist and after one visit , I was ready to go back for some cosmetic work. Dr. Mohan explained everything thoroughly, made me feel calm and confident and now I have a beautiful smile I love to show off. She and her staff are very skilled with the most advanced technology. I never thought I’d say it was fun going to the dentist.
I haven’t been to the dentist in over a decade, needless to say I really needed to get in there. Everyone has been so amazing throughout my visits, Dr. Mohan is so kind and very helpful in what is going on with your teeth, and how to make a great game plan for your dental health. She makes sure you feel good throughout the process as well. I highly recommend them and this great facility! Thank you all again so much!!!!! My dental health has done a complete 180 and I’m so so so grateful and happy with it! (:
