Full story:
I have had a relatively strong dental care routine for my entire life. In my 24 years thus far, I have only received one filling. I just moved to NYC and I needed a new dentist. When I went in, they did a cleaning that had me in the chair for over an hour. I was probably only receiving treatments for half of that time, but it was still an abnormally long time to be in the chair.
They took X-rays and then left me alone for 5-10 min before sending the dentist back in to review the X-rays with me. She shared that I had 2-3 cavities that needed to be filled. She also said that I needed to get my lone previous one re-filled. She then offered to fill two of my molars “out of convenience” because I didn’t receive sealant on these particular molars when I was younger, and she suggested that if we do fillings on them instead of adding sealant, it’ll be covered by insurance & prevent me from developing any cavities in the future.
In case you’re keeping track at home, that’s 5-6 fillings that she is offering/prescribing.
I found this odd because I have had such a great dental history. I made an appointment with another dentist to cross reference this diagnosis. Much to my suspicion, this dentist said I have 0 necessary fillings. He suggested that we keep an eye on the previous filling as time goes on, but that it is clear that nothing needs to be done.
I called Pristine Dental after having some gum and toothaches, and luckily was able to be seen same-day.
The office is busy but clean, and I was called right after filling out some initial paperwork on my dental history and medical history. Dr. Hong was very friendly and professional, listening attentively to my discomfort, and diagnosed the issue and treated me with care and efficiency. She also gave helpful tips on dental hygiene, which honestly I probably needed a refresher on as it’s not something I think of as much as I should.
Will certainly be back for my future needs and regular cleaning!
