Reviews:
I first came to Modern Dentistry in January 2024. I had a crack in one tooth and a cavity. Dr. Cho offered a different type of filling called Cerec. We agreed we would do this. Out of pocket was just over $1200. Since January I had been in four times to have them work on this tooth because i still couldn’t eat on that side of my mouth. 2 weeks ago I went back in, they checked to see if I needed a root canal which was confirmed that I did not need one. The next day I was swollen and went to urgent care. I had an infection which the dentist obviously didn’t catch or even check for. I scheduled an endodontics appointment to get a second opinion because I was not convinced. My appointment was this morning and was confirmed that I in fact DID need a root canal which they performed immediately. Needless to say, I was not pleased with how modern dentistry handled my situation and I will not be going back. Over $3000 out of pocket and 6 months worth of pain and frustration.
EDIT: Colleen from modern dentistry contacted me personally to resolve some of the issue. I was able to talk with her and express my experience with all of this. She put in a claim to refund the portion of the bill that covered the filling which is so helpful. I greatly appreciate the customer service and willingness to compensate me for mistakes that were not my responsibility and out of my control.
I came to U.P. Modern Dentistry after a bad experience at two seperate dentistries where I had been trying to get the same tooth fixed. Within minutes I had a full plan documented for the future of my dental health, a root canal booked to repair the damage caused at the original dentist, and an established rapport with the staff.

Taylor was on call all throughout the day to alleviate the anxiety I felt about taking on the tooth for a third time somewhere new, and she never made me feel like a bother for asking questions about billing or my anxieties regarding the procedure.

Dr. Chinchilla performed two root canals on me and both went without a hitch, the room felt casual and professionally executed. He did an excellent job keeping things light while steadily working on each tooth, and I would definitely recommend his endodontic services to a friend.

Dr. Cho was my primary dentist, and I enjoyed his treatment so much that I followed him when he transferred to Gig Harbor and had him put in both my crowns. Truly a great practice all around, and I highly recommend both locations.

I went to University Place Modern Dentistry as a new patient for X-rays, cleaning and dentist check. Office was slow but receptionist took my insurance card and verified everything was covered but $27 dollars. Xray, cleaning and dental care was provided. My issue is I received a bill for the entire $2500 as they billed the incorrect state. Following several calls to them and my insurance, who took pity on me and contacted University Place Modern Dentistry directly I received a bill for $543. Turns out they took extra X-rays that were not covered. Either they don’t know how to check coverage and/or bill coverage correctly or they intentionally mislead me about my coverage. I’m not sure which is worse! Beware!
