Look basically I phoned around to multiple dental offices and asked if they use nano-hydroxyapatite as an alternative remineralizing agent to fluoride. The first five or so said no or simply didn’t know what I was talking about. I know it exists because I know a dentist who uses it in practice (they aren’t local) and also recommends it at home in toothpaste.
So when I phoned FADC, the receptionist put me on hold to talk to someone in the back – came back and said “Yes we use it for those patients that request it.”
So at the end of my cleaning, I come to find out that nope it doesn’t exist and I have to use fluoride. It’s not a big deal, fluoride works fine as a remineralizing agent, and the toxicity concerns may be a bit overblown as long as you’re not drinking fluoridated tap water (which we don’t have in Vancouver)
The office replied to my original review and said sorry for the misunderstanding. Maybe it was just that, but cmon, it seems a lot more likely that it was just a lie to get a new customer in the door. Scummy behavior
Also, my gf who went in at the same time swears that multiple teeth were missed during her cleaning. In fairness, we were 5 min late and then had to fill out paperwork as new patients, so they were pretty rushed.
Everything else was fine, would recommend aside from this little hiccup. My hygienist was friendly, professional and skilled
Initially, my appointment wasn’t in their records, so I had to reschedule, which I understand can happen. During my rescheduled appointment, the X-ray process was so painful because the staff struggled to position the equipment correctly in my mouth, and the process was repeated aggressively to get clear images. The hygiene cleaning afterward was also unexpectedly painful for a routine procedure.
The dentist was seeing multiple patients at once so there were waiting times for each step of the treatment process. Although some staff tried to be friendly, but their timing was completely off. They engaged in conversation when my mouth was numb or when I needed to keep it open, which felt awkward and unprofessional.
Furthermore, they informed my partner that he required a crown and fitted him with a temporary one, which he had to wear for weeks until the permanent one could be placed. A later visit to another dentist revealed that his tooth had become infected due to the treatment received here, ultimately requiring its removal. The new dentist even questioned the initial treatment plan, leaving us feeling like we had wasted time and money at this dentist.
I chose this dentist because they consistently had availability, but I believe there is a reason. I can’t recommend this dentist to anyone.
My first exam and cleaning went okay. The space felt really cluttered with boxes and there wasn’t much privacy between clients but they did a good job.
I needed some filings and the next appointment is where things started to go wrong. The dentist was working with an assistant whilst they did their work. The Dentist repeatedly berated the assistant whilst he had my mouth opened up… it was uncomfortable and incredibly unprofessional. I don’t much enjoy the dentist generally, let alone when the dentist is focusing more on telling off staff than my teeth.
Since then, I have had 3/4 cleanings cancelled on the day or 1/2 days before the appointment. The clinic feels disorganized and disrespectful of their clients time.
Safe to say, I have decided to take my business elsewhere (which will cost me a complete oral exam because I’m only covered once every 3 years to transfer clinic)
